Away Regattas & Results
Attending Away Regattas
Each year, WRRA sends competitive men’s and women’s crews to as many as a dozen away regattas during the spring, summer and fall. Competing against other club crews can be a rewarding experience and a great way to test your skills as a rower. Away regatta participation is open to any WRRA member with more than one year of rowing experience and Head Coach recommendation.
Some important things to keep in mind in deciding to participate in away regattas:
•Team Considerations - WRRA travels as a team and rowers support their teammates by participating in mandatory boat rigging and de-rigging and loading and unloading of the trailer. This usually takes place on Thursday evenings prior to a regatta and on Sunday or Monday evenings afterwards.
•Time Considerations – Away regattas often start early in the morning and may necessitate an overnight stay in the city where the regatta is being held. Time devoted to rigging/de-rigging and loading/unloading should also be considered.
•Cost Considerations - Regatta participants can expect to pay a fee to WRRA that covers boat entry fees and your portion of the cost of transporting shells (truck rental & gas) to and from the event. Additional costs may include your own travel expenses (transportation, food and lodging), coxswain expenses, the cost of a team jersey, etc.
