Program Description
The purpose of the Masters Competitive Program (COMP) is to provide structure and encouragement for WRRA members with a minimum one year of prior rowing experience (or Head Coach exemption) who desire to participate in rowing competition. Outcomes include an improvement of the technical skills and physical condition of rowers in the program; and increased recognition of WRRA as effective competitors at local, regional, and national rowing competitions.
This intensive 29 week sweep rowing program incorporates three organized practices on the water per week led by WRRA Head Coach Kirk Lang, with the understanding that participants will devote themselves to 2-3 additional training sessions per week through erging, sculling, strength training or other forms of crosstraining.
All rowers in the program are given the opportunity to participate in tryouts. Racing lineups will be designed by the head coach to make the most competitive boats possible. Participation in races is determined by several factors including seat race performance, erg scores, attendance and attitude.
The Masters COMP program fees include paid coxing for practices. The registration cost is based on 14 weeks of 12 coxed practices (for the team) per week. The program fee does not cover additional expenses associated with races such as registration, lodging, coxswain payment or truck rental/gas for the trailer.
