Safety

WRRA has been rowing on the Cuyahoga for over 20 years,  sharing the river with commercial iron-ore freighters, tour boats and private boaters.  To do so requires that all rowers have a basic understanding of river safety, and that the appropriate measures are taken each time a rowing shell enters the water to ensure that it returns to the dock safely and without incident.

A CRF committee made up of members from multiple organizations within the boathouse  oversee safety issues on and off the water.

All rowers have a Safety Qualification Level (SQL). Written exams are used to test rowers knowledge to advance in SQL rating for those interested in advancing their SQL level.

For more information, you can download a copy of the Safety Operations Manual (SOM) here.

The SQL 1, SQL 2, and CQL 1 tests are administered by the CRF Safety Committee.  If you are interested in taking any of these exams email clevelandrowing@gmail.com .
