- Boat Maintenance Day
- March 3rd, 2012
-
This Sunday rowers in all Sweeps programs (SRL, FRL, Recreational Rowing, Masters Comp, and General Sweeps/Buddy Boats) are encouraged to help prepare the sweeps fleet (that is, the boats you’ll be rowing in) for the upcoming season. No experience or knowledge is required to help with this maintenance session. In fact, it’s a great opportunity for those less familiar with the structure/rigging /maintenance of our boats to learn more about them. Many thanks to those who have already indicated they are coming!
For more information on the Sunday, March 4 (8 am – 12 noon) session, please check the Feb. 14 e-mail you received. And once you decide which session you can volunteer for, please RSVP to: volunteer@westernreserverowing.com

- March 3rd, 2012

Here’s some of the team and individual indoor rowing posse that completed a marathon on the evening of Friday, March 2. That’s right, 42,195 meters in one session. It really was a surprisingly good time and there was a FAB vibe amongst the participants. Hmmm, wonder if a video might be coming . . .
- Join us for a #RowingChat Twitter Chat
- March 2nd, 2012
-
Friday, March 2nd at 8pm EST, we’d like to invite you to join us for our very first #rowingchat on Twitter. What is a Twitter chat?A Twitter chat is a lot like any other online chat, where people gather to talk about a specific issue. The great thing about a Twitter chat is it brings people together from all over world to a central area (Twitter) where they can interact in real time. To join a Twitter chat, you just need to know what hashtag is being used. A hashtag is simply a way to search topics on Twitter and is recognized as a word preceded by a pound sign, such as #Henley or #GrammysHow do I participate? You can simply go to Twitter.com and login, then type #Rowingchat into the search box at the top. If you keep refreshing the search results, you will see the chat stream as it comes in through Twitter. You may also use an application specifically designed to monitor Twitter chats. The most popular options are TweetChat, TweetGrid, and TweetDeck. These applications will allow you to enter your search term (#RowingChat) and show a stream that will update in real time (or based on how often you tell the application to refresh the stream).Question and answer formatModerator will post the question:Q1. What’s you favorite color? #RowingChatTweet your answer including the number of the question and the hashtagA1. Gold is my favorite color #RowingChatIt’s that simple. You can share the chat with your followers by retweeting the questions. You can answer any questions at any time, just make sure to add the number of the question to your tweet. The moderator will usually ask a question every 6 minutes, and will stop after one hour. The chat can go on as long as you would like, the questions will stop but the conversation doesn’t have to.Join in a few minutes early to introduce yourself.Remember, the more people invited, the better the party.Tweet your friends and invite them to join.If you have any questions, tweet them to @RowingChat

Happy 2012!—A Season Preview
While it is just the beginning of February, warm weather and WRRA’s return to rowing are really just around the corner. WRRA committee members, board, president and coach are busy planning for a great 2012 season and beyond. We will build upon the momentum started in 2010 and 2011; continuing with our diverse and strong rowing programs and varied communication strategies. From the 2011 surveys we know that coaching, program development, and equipment are near and dear to your hearts and we are paying serious attention to these areas and anticipate significant action.
- Your Feedback & Questions
- January 27th, 2012
-
After our inaugural season Rivergate Park, we’ve been taking a look at the things did well and more importantly, the things we could do better. One item we’re focusing on is improving communications to our members about the myriad items associated with WRRA and the Cleveland Rowing Foundation boathouse. With a large increase in new WRRA members last year, sometimes we forget what new folks don’t know (opportunities to row more, volunteering, membership options). We’ll be sending out a newsletter shortly that will be one step towards providing clarity and understanding on some of those items.
We’re also looking for your feedback and questions on items you’re interested in or perhaps aren’t clear on. Feel free to e-mail us at info@westernreserverowing.com.
- WRRA Maintenance Day at the Boathouse
- January 23rd, 2012
-
Date: Saturday February 4
Time: 9 am – noon
Place: Rivergate Boathouse
Contact: volunteer@westernreserverowing.com
The first of seven WRRA volunteer maintenance days for 2012 is Saturday, Feb 4th. Over the course of the year our maintenance tasks will be focused on the boathouse, docks and other rowing related infrastructure. General grounds-keeping tasks will be hired out (lawn care, etc). In this way we hope to utilize your time on tasks more closely associated with rowing. Your assistance on these maintenance days is vital to maintaining our boathouse while minimizing the cost of rowing.
Volunteerism is an integral part of the structure of Western Reserve Rowing Association. Those who volunteer gain a greater understanding of how our organization operates, and you’ll develop an enhanced connectedness to WRRA and your fellow members. We value and respect your time and will make every effort to use it wisely.
The next volunteer maintenance day will not occur until June! Please contact us at volunteer@westernreserverowing.com to let us know you can assist from 9 am – 12 noon on Saturday, February 4th. Thanks!
