Performance Rowing Program

For Experienced Rowers

Program Description

Performance Rowing will offer coached rowing with an emphasis on fitness and performance. This is for the rower that likes to get a good workout, row at higher stroke ratings, and is looking to refine their rowing technique. There will be monthly erg testing. This may serve as the next step towards preparing to participate in the more intensive Masters Competitive program

The 15-week Performance program is open to all experienced rowers who have completed a minimum of two previous WRRA rowing league sessions (such as summer and fall), or the Recreational or Performance rowing program.

Led by WRRA’s Performance Rowing coaches, crews practice in 90-minute sessions twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday) in either 4-person or 8-person shells. Enrollment is limited to ensure close personal attention by the coaching staff. The cost does include coxswain fees.  Performance crews will also have the opportunity to race, if desired, in select out-of-town regattas during the summer. Please refer to the Program Guidelines for more specific information.

Performance Rowing coaches have the right to move participants to Recreational Rowing if it is determined the rower is not meeting benchmarks or does not have the skill level required for Performance Rowing.

Each year, WRRA sends competitive men's and women's crews to as many as a dozen away regattas during the spring, summer and fall. Competing against other club crews can be a rewarding experience and a great way to test your skills as a rower. Away regatta participation is open to any WRRA member with more than one year of rowing experience and/or Head Coach recommendation.
