Cleveland's Premier Adult Rowing Club

WRRA Intermediate Rowing Program

For Experienced Rowers

Program Description
Intermediate rowing is for those rowers who have completed one full season of SRL and FRL and are ready for more intensive instruction and practice on the water. Practice will consist of a 90 minute session twice a week, either Monday or Tuesday and Saturday morning.

The WRRA Intermediate Rowing Program is designed to accommodate our rowers’ various intent for rowing and offers two tiers.

Recreational Intermediate:
This tier will offer coached rowing with an emphasis on technique and time to enjoy being outdoors on the river.  It is for those rowers that want to get out on the river and row with some coaching, lower stroke ratings, and no emphasis on racing.

Performance Intermediate:
This tier will offer coached rowing with an emphasis on fitness and performance. This is for the rower that likes to get a good workout, row at higher stroke ratings, and is looking to refine their rowing technique. Intermediate coaches have the right to move participants to Recreational Intermediate if it is determined the rower is not meeting benchmarks or does not have the skill level required for Performance Intermediate. Benchmarks include monthly erg testing. This program may serve as the next step toward preparing to compete or participate in the more intensive Masters Competitive program.

The 15-week Intermediate program is open to all experienced rowers who have completed a minimum of two previous WRRA rowing league sessions (such as summer and fall) or any other Intermediate program.

Led by WRRA’s Intermediate coaches, crews practice in 90-minute sessions twice a week in either 4-person or 8-person shells. Enrollment is limited to ensure close personal attention by the coaching staff. The cost does include coxswain fees. Intermediate crews will also have the opportunity to race, if desired, in select out-of- town regattas during the summer. Please refer to the Intermediate Program Guidelines for more specific information.

Competing against other club crews can be a rewarding experience and a great way to test your skills as a rower. Away regatta participation is open to any WRRA member with more than one year of rowing experience and/or Head Coach recommendation.
