About the event

I hope you all have been having a nice and safe off-season. As you know, WRRA will be opening up registration for Masters next week (Monday 4/3) as announced in the latest newsletter.

The boathouse is currently experiencing a coaching shortage which is having a heavy impact on WRRA. Right now, WRRA does not have a coach for the masters program.

Because of this, I would like to get the masters team together this Saturday, 4/1 at 10am at CRF to discuss options for the season. The board recommends the following until we can find a full-time coach:

  1. Team Self-Coaches: Members of the masters team who are CQL certified take turns coaching the program. These individuals will be compensated for their time.
  2. Team Runs "Buddy Boats": In the instance in which there is no coach, WRRA will allow masters members to go out in "buddy boats" (uncoached) as long as they meet all requirements in the CRF SAM (50+ of the crew is SQL certified or higher).

The meeting should only last 30min. I know some members have reached out to me with interest in debriefing last year's season (e.g., what worked / what would we like to see changed) + discussing the upcoming season (e.g., who will be captains). I encourage those of you interested in this conversation to stay after the coaching conversation concludes (we have the conference room through 11am).

Looking to help in the meantime? WRRA has posted the job on both Row2k and LinkedIn. We would love for you to share these with your networks/social media in the hopes of finding a head coach soon.

See you this weekend,

Heather Bonsky Director of Sweeps Programs  Western Reserve Rowing Association 1003 British Street Cleveland, OH, 44113
