Summer Rowing League
Summer Rowing League (SRL)
For Novice and Experienced Rowers
Western Reserve Rowing Association’s Summer Rowing League (SRL) is designed for adults of all rowing backgrounds—from complete beginners to experienced rowers—who want to row once a week in a supportive and fun team environment.
Each 90-minute, coach-led session focuses on improving rowing technique, teamwork, and boat-handling skills in eight-person shells. Practices are held Monday through Thursday, with two time slots available:
- 5:45 – 7:15 PM
- 7:30 – 9:00 PM
Team Formation
- Teams are a mix of male and female rowers, but you may request an all-female or co-ed team depending on availability.
- All rowers are placed with one team for the entire season.
- If you don’t have a team, our Program Director will help place you.
- Novice rowers will be grouped with other novices to ensure a positive and comfortable learning experience.
Coaching & Coxswains
- The SRL fee includes all coaching and equipment for the season.
- Novice teams will have a paid coxswain provided for the first three practices.
- Experienced teams are encouraged to secure an approved coxswain.
- WRRA will assist in finding a coxswain if needed, but teams are responsible for compensating their coxswain after the initial practices.
Required Training
- All rowers must register with USRowing and complete the SafeSport training before rowing.
- SafeSport is mandatory due to interaction with minors (many coxswains are under 18).
- Initial training: ~90 minutes
- Annual refresher: ~30 minutes
Regattas
SRL rowers participate in two regattas each summer session:
- June 21st
- August 9th
These fun, low-pressure events give teams a chance to show off their progress and celebrate the rowing season.
